WinGD sought to review current protocols and processes in relation to crisis management and communications to ensure its leadership team.
The Challenge:
Swiss marine power company WinGD advances the decarbonisation of marine transportation through sustainable energy systems using the most advanced technologies in emissions reduction, fuel efficiency, hybridisation and digital optimisation. They have been headquartered in Switzerland since their inception in the late 1800s and now have offices and operations worldwide.
The nature of their engine production and development functions and having a global workforce puts WinGD’s business at potential risk exposure from a variety of reputational issues. WinGD also works closely with third parties where the lines of response and responsibility can become blurred when potential crises appear.
WinGD sought to review current protocols and processes in relation to crisis management and communications to ensure its leadership team, relevant internal teams and supply chain members were in a robust position to respond efficiently and effectively should reputational issues arise.
Our Approach:
The Wake Media team, with corporate communications specialists, Speed Communications, worked with WinGD to review and evolve their existing crisis manual and protocols/processes to ensure that they were all fit for purpose and reflective of key stakeholders, culture, structure, and resources held within the business.
To kick-off the review process, Speed held insight sessions with the WinGD leadership team to define the needs of the crisis management plan for different areas of the business. This spanned all areas, including R&D, operations, finance, IT and legal.
When the insight sessions were concluded, Speed fully re-drafted WinGD’s crisis manual and developed a new bank of rapid response statements, as well as creating a crisis continuity plan for WinGD. In addition to these resources, Speed constructed an educational roll-out guide to support the onboarding of documents within WinGD.
Given the global and often remote nature of WinGD’s day-to-day business it was important to create a guide that can be accessed by all colleagues anytime, anywhere. The old hard-copy guide was replaced by a digitally accessible file to ensure it was easily at the fingertips of those who might need to reference it.”
Impact:
As a result of undertaking the crisis continuity planning, WinGD disseminated new protocols to all managers. Translated quick reference sheets on a country by country basis were distributed to ensure the accessibility of the new manual, response statements and crisis continuity plan.
